1. Competition Objective

The objective of the competition is to strategically deploy and operate a fleet of drones in a team-based battle to cross obstacles and destroy opponents' Defence and Guardian towerss. Victory is achieved by securing the highest total score in the shortest amount of time.

Key objectives include:

  • Strategise your team's flight path

  • Maximise Score: Teams must complete various mission tasks to accumulate points. The winner is ultimately determined by the total score achieved in each game.

Win on Speed: In addition to the total score, the team that completes the objectives in the shortest time will be declared the winner. Teams are encouraged to develop offensive and defensive strategies to achieve this goal.

2. Competition Arena

The venue is a 400cm long, 300cm wide printed map as shown in the following diagram:

Size 3m * 4m

  • The take-off area is approximately 60cm X 30cm. Drones must take off from this area (labelled with a red cross, refer to figure above).

  • Obstacles: Placed at points A and B. The height of the high hoop is 80cm above the ground, the low hoop is 20cm above the ground, and the hoop diameter is 40 cm.

  • Defense Tower: Placed at point C on a 100cm high platform, with 5 health points. It attacks outwards (emits infrared) once per second.

  • The position of defense tower is  under team discussion and strategic decision making before the game starts. Once it is decided for, the location of the defence tower can no longer be modified until the rounds end. The position of the defense tower can only change before the next round starts, for only one change for every round. Defense towers should not be placed in such a way where the opponent is unable to shoot the tower without needing to cross the isolation zone.

  • Guardian Tower Tower: Placed at point D on a 150cm high platform, with a full health of 10. Each successful drone attack reduces the Guardian Tower's health. When the health reaches 0, the Guardian Tower is destroyed and the game is over. The Guardian Tower tower must face towards the opponent's 180 degree view at any angle decided by the team before the game starts. The position of the Guardian Tower tower can only change before the next round starts, for only one change for every round.

  • The isolation zone is in the middle of the map, approximately 300cm X 50cm where no drones are allowed to cross. If it does, drones shall restart from the take-off area.

  • The obstacle area is approximately 300cm X 87.5cm, with obstacles at A and B.

  • The mission area is approximately 300cm X 87.5cm, with the opponent's defense tower at point C and one's own Guardian Tower at point D.

3. Drone Parameter

  • Drones are quadcopters with no more than 20cm inclusive of propeller protectors. The flying weight must not exceed 200g (including battery).

  • The nominal voltage of the power battery must not exceed 4.2V, and the capacity must not exceed 1100mA.

  • Drones are operated by radio remote control.

  • All drones must support infrared transmitting functions.

4. Competition Teams

  • There will only be 2 teams competing. Each team consists of only 1-2 contestants.

  • Every contestant is allowed to carry one drone. 2 contestants team means there shall be 2 drones in a team and 4 drones in 2 teams. One is the red team and another is the blue team.

  • Each team can bring up to 2 spare drones. Teams will not be penalized for changing spare drones after each game.

5.  Competition System

  • In the first game, players will be randomly selected to choose their positions. In the second game, the loser has priority in choosing their position.

  • Players will be given 3 minutes to discuss and strategise not limited to decide where the team wants to place and position their Defence and Guardian Tower tower.

  • After the Defense and Guardian Towers are placed, there will be another 2 minutes for the Team to discuss their strategies to win.

  • During the competition, fallen drones can re-fly to continue the game. If they cannot re-fly, the corresponding participating team can use the right to replace a spare drone only once per game. During the replacement, they must not interfere with the opponent's drone, and the spare drone must be restarted from the take-off area. If the spare drone falls again and cannot re-fly, they must wait for the end of the current game.

  • Each team can bring up to 2 spare drones. During the competition, if a drone cannot re-fly due to a fall or other reasons, the corresponding participating team can apply to the referee to replace it with a spare drone. Each player is limited to replacing a spare drone only once per match. During the replacement, they must not interfere with the opponent's drone, and the spare drone must be restarted from the take-off area to continue the mission. Completed tasks will not be scored repeatedly.

  • If one of the participant’s drone end up in the opponent’s area or the isolation zone, the contestants have to take their drone back and start from the take-off area

6.  Competition Rules and Procedures

  1. Each match has 3 rounds, each round lasting 2 minutes. After each match, participating players will leave the venue after signing the score sheet. The clock will not stop during a single round except for pauses announced by the referee.

  2. Tasks

    a) Obstacle Task
After the referee signals "prepare to start," contestants operate the drones to take off, and the game officially begins. Drones start from the take-off area. Both players must pass through obstacles A and B in the obstacle area to score.
    b) Attack Defense Tower Task
The contestant's drone attacks the opponent Defense Towers positioned in their own area. The task is completed once the drone successfully destroys the tower.
    c) Shooting Task
The contestant's drone attacks the enemy Guardian Tower. Neither of any drones can enter the isolation zone or the opponent's area.

  3. Scoring Rules

  • Taking off the drone: 5 points each for the team player's drone successfully taking off.  A and B, with a maximum of 10 points per team.

  • Crossing obstacles: 15 points each for the team player successfully crossing obstacles A and B, with a maximum of 30 points per team.

  • Destroying the Defense Tower: 30 points each health, max 150 points.

  • Guardian Tower tower: 30 points for each point of enemy Guardian Tower health depleted, max 300 points.

The winner will be determined by the highest score and shortest completion time. If teams have the same score, the team with the faster time will win.

The following situations are considered serious violations, resulting in an immediate loss and settlement of the current scores of both teams:
(1) Using equipment or devices that do not follow competition rules or have not been approved by the referee.
(2) Unauthorizedly turning on or using wireless equipment during the competition by a non-competing team.
(3) Disobeying commands and causing consequences.
